Pulled Pork Sandwich

One of my favorite meals to make is beef on a bun.
I love making it because it requires very little effort and is always a crowd pleaser.

I have tried many different recipes. Too many to count really and they have all been good.... but people, I am here to say, I have finally found the mother of all recipes. It is really and truly the best we've ever tried! Thanks so much for sharing it Christina!

Now, I always make my 'beef on a bun' meal with, you guessed it- beef! Chris' dad is a hunter and we are so blessed to always have a freezer full of yummy game meat.
So this was my first attempt at using a pork roast and I have to say it turned out soooooooo yummy!

Whether your family prefers beef or pork, try this one.
I promise, if you like meat, you will LOVE it!


Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
(adapted from The Spicy Morsel and Dinner with Julie)

1- 2 to 3 lb pork roast
salt and pepper
herbamare sea salt mix (this is just a mix of organic herbs and vegetables, optional)
canola or olive oil
1 large onion
2 carrots, chopped (no need to peal them)
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 cup beef broth ( you can also use a bottle of beer, juice, cider or root beer)
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp thyme
1 tbsp garlic powder
2 cups BBQ sauce
soft buns

Season the pork on all sides with salt, pepper and sea salt mix. Pour oil in skillet and heat over med-high. Place meat in skillet and brown on all sides.
Remove from pan and set aside on a plate. Add vegetables to the pan and cook for a few minutes, until starting to turn golden. (you can skip this step and just throw everything right in the slow cooker, but this part adds SO MUCH FLAVOR!)

Put the vegetables in the bottom of the slow cooker, and top with the pork. Pour some of the broth into the skillet, and swirl around, scraping up any yummy browned bits stuck to the bottom, pour into slow cooker.
Pour the rest of the broth and all the remaining ingredients into the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Remove the meat and set aside. Strain the vegetables and discard. Keep the sauce and return the pork to the slow cooker. Shred with a fork.

Load onto soft buns.
Mmmmmm!

  1. yummmm! I'm going to try this recipe! I have one that's just roast, sugar and a can of coke- it is SOO good for pulled sandwiches! The photos of the snow made me so homesick for Montana. Gorgeous photos, you're really a great photographer-

  2. I made this the other night to take over to my sister's house as they just got home from the hospital. It was a hit! Everyone loved it and I will definatly be making it again. Thanks for posting the recipe!
