Sailin' the sales

We spent the whole day yesterday garage sailing. It was our community parade of garage sales, which means you're pretty much guaranteed a sale on every corner.

I love garage sales. I love finding treasures and paying very little for things that I would normally walk away from in the store because of the cost.
It excites me.
I am a deal hunter at heart.
It is just pure entertainment.
I especially like finding old things and loving them back to life :)

Chris had to go into the office yesterday so {lucky for me} I got to take all three children with me.
Yes, I am crazy. And will admit that taking a six, three and almost two year old to a bunch of garage sales by myself is a little stressful.
All in all though (I'm happy to report) they actually did really well. Very minimal whining/begging/tantrums!
:)

Here's our loot:
A picnic table for Chris' parents house.
(I forgot to take a picture of the table before bringing it over to their house, but this is the exact one)

A rad skateboard
(according to my six year old)

A HUGE box of Lego. This was so awesome!
Sorry that the video goes in and out of focus so much... my camera's video mode is auto focus so I am always having to refocus as I move, and have no idea how to fix that.
Oh, and that's Chris fooling around on the piano in the background- in case you were wondering :)

A bunch of books

We paid $4 for this set of 32 books.
FOUR DOLLARS!
My six year old has been checking them out of his school library all year and was so excited to get the entire set for his bookshelf. Yup, I think we are raising another bookworm. (poor kid, didn't have a chance with Chris and I as his parents)

And a gorgeous trunk.
That I am in love with.

It belonged to the lady's great-great-grandparents.
I love it.
I smile every time I walk past it.

What about you? Do you heart garage sales?? Or groan at the mention of them?? (cough, like my hubby, cough cough)

  2. Love the trunk!

And... I enjoy Karen Kingsbury's books too -- glad to see that in the loot!

My mom used to have a bumper sticker on her car that read: "Caution: This Car Stops at All Garage Sales". We went all the time. So I love going to garage sales :)

  4. We are kindred spirits! I love a good sale, girlfriend. I bought so much of our little tikes goodies at garage sales. Did you know that you can buy spray paint that is specially made for outdoor plastic and give it a fresh coat? Makes it look brand new and "custom" too :) You would absolutely laugh if you knew all the stuff I have spray painted in my house. El cheapo, yes I am. I love the challenge of making old things look new. My husband laughs at me. I wish we lived closer, we could shop the sales together!

  5. Woah!! Your treasures are incredible! Unfortunately garage sales are only in America :( I could use a few, now that I am newly married and living on almost nothing...but we live in South Africa :( I am sure you are a fun person to go garage sailing with !

garage sales are AWESOME - but i have very little self control and so don't go often, well very rare in the last few years... but looking doesn't hurt right? i need to learn to do that.

  7. LOVE garage saling! We're planning on hitting them up big time once we move. We've found some great toys and books over the years, though this time we'll be in the furniture market. That trunk you found is awesome -- great find!
