One on One with my Big Girl!

One of the biggest things I struggle with as a mommy to three little ones, is finding the quality time to spend one on one with each of my kids.
It seems like I haven't been able to do as much of this as I'd like. No. Scratch that. Not it seems, it simply just IS.
It is a fact, my friends. I just don't do it. Sure I play with them for a few minutes here and there, but other things- like laundry, preparing meals, running errands and (dare I admit) being on the computer have taken over the bulk of my time.

Today was the perfect day to change that. Big boy is in school and it was just us girls at home. So, this morning after baby girl went down for her morning nap, my big girl and I decided to do some baking together. We both had a blast!

She was so adorable, surprising me with how patient and excited she could be at the very same time :)

Mashing the bananas was definitely her favorite part!

I really do think she's going to enjoy being in the kitchen with me as we continue to bond over more yummy treats!
Together we made two batches of banana muffins and a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I have to say that spending this time with her has been so special to me.

Often I feel like she gets the short end of the stick. Part of it is because of her personality. She is SO easy going and SO laid back that she really just entertains herself. The other part though, is the fact that I am not prioritizing my time properly. Twice a week we have a good hour to ourselves and yet I rarely get to enjoy my time with her.
I'm always busy doing one thing or another.
That's going to change!
I can and will spend more one on one time with her instead of doing the laundry, washing the dishes, de-clutterizing (is that a word?), reading, working on the computer, making meals, taking a shower....ect.
Sure, all those things are important and I do need to find the time in each day to finish them, but I'm learning that what I need to do is simply organize my time more efficiently.

Thanks my little love, for such an awesome morning! I love you to pieces :)

Now, I'm guessing the everyone has their own favorite recipe of Chocolate Chip cookies, but I thought I'd post ours anyway, just in case you wanted an excuse to try a new one :)

Chocolate Chippers
(from Company's Coming-Cookies)

1 cup butter/margarine softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla.

Stir flour, cornstarch, salt and baking soda together and add. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake in 350* oven for 10-15 minutes.

  1. What a sweetie! And the cookies look awesome too!

I often feel like my middle son is the one left out. It is a constant struggle to get one-on-one time with each child- especially with three :) I pray a lot for God to give me specific ways to connect with each one of my children each day. He always delivers :)

  2. It looks like she had a great time being your big helper! I have one that often gets lost in the shuffle too, it just takes a little more effort, but they really do love the attention.

  3. She is so sweet and that is such a sincere post that all of us mommies can relate to. I have found from experience that most young children love spending time cooking and baking. I have a children's chocolate cake in the chocolate roundup. It couldn't possibly be easier to make. You should try it. Children's cookbooks are usually dumbed down with silly recipes so we use regular recipes and our son is my helper, but I do recommend Emeril's There's A Chef in My Family (2 others in the series too -- try his lasagna!) and Picture Yourself Cooking w/Your Kids.
