S.O.S

Calling all Moms! Calling all Moms!

I NEED your advice.

Please......

Pretty, pretty please!

I'm in desperate need for your solutions on getting your babies to sleep at night. Really ladies, I'm all ears!

I know what you may be thinking- I should have this down, since our sweet girl is our third baby, but seriously I'm at a loss!

I've tried everything- playing music, having a light on, feeding her right before bed and I've tried this method (which worked so easily with big sister) all to no avail. Sigh.

I've even tried just letting her cry it out. (which by the way was not fun at all!) Now, in all fairness I may not have given the whole screaming it out process a fair shot, only because we grew very frustrated, very quickly at the fact that our baby girl would end up waking the other two and then they'd be up all night too. In fact on those nights we'd finally get our baby to sleep and then her big sister (after being woken up by baby) would now return the favor and wake up her baby sister with her screams. AARRGG!
Such a frustrating vicious cycle!

This post comes on the tail of a very looooong night. I think I may have gotten 3-4 hours sleep. It's so hard to know what's going on. Is she hungry? In pain? Teething? Or just giving us a run for our money- so to speak :)

So, please, please, please share with me what worked for you. I will forever be indebted to you!
Oh, and if all your kids just slept like little angels, I'm extremely happy for you, but please don't tell me..... I may just start bawling and want to run away and never come back!
Just kidding, you can tell me if your kids are good sleepers, I'll just be really jealous :)

  1. Hey, don't be hard on yourself! All kids are different, and I have certainly learned that just when you get something figured out they will change it on you!

We have all three in the same room. the boys are in a queen bed and carlee in her own toddler bed. Bedtime is hubby's job, my patience is gone by then. But he still lays down with them until they go to sleep. Usually they all go to sleep fairly quickly. Unless they had too late of a nap. We follow a pretty consistent bedtime routine and bedtime is always 7:30, so I think that helps for them to know what is coming next. Some nights can be pretty wild with all three in the same room, but generally they are all sleeping by 8pm.

We still struggle with nighttime waking, but we have gotten to a point where the boys get up, come into our bed, and go right back to sleep. Some nights if I am somewhat consious and remotely ambitious I will attempt to get them to go back to sleep in their own bed. But most nights we end up with at least one kid in bed with us. So far it hasn't been a problem, they are not kickers, not yet anyways;) And I must admit that I enjoy waking up to a little face!

When we were having more trouble than that I could never bear to use the cry it out method. But I did use some ideas and techniques from a book by Elizabeth Pantley called the No-Cry Sleep Solution. Of course I did not follow everything to the letter and thus we still have kids who technically do not sleep through the night.

I definatly recommend the book, check amazon. They usually have used books for a few cents then a bit of shipping. Sorry this got pretty long! Let me know if you want anymore info about what we do.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm definitely going to check out that book.

  3. Once mine were around 6 months or so we just let them cry it out. It was definitely not pleasant and NOT easy. But after about three nights he didn't cry anymore. Of course, they are all so different...you have to go with your gut sometimes :)

    Love your blog!
