My computer died yesterday.
I am VERY upset over my loss.
You see, the last time I did a back-up was last May. I know, I know what was I thinking?!?!
This means that all the pictures I've taken since then (except for the few that I have posted here on the blog), are trapped in the hard drive stubbornly refusing to be retrieved.
This is tragic!!
My baby girl was born in may- that means all the pictures from her entire first 10 months- GONE.
*tear*
Or so I thought...
OH HAPPY DAY!
All is not lost!
Tonight, my amazing hubby was able to find some of the pictures off of my broken Mac.
We now have until last summer....Hooray!!
I am still holding out hope that we may be able to find more, but in the meantime I am choosing to rejoice over what we do have!
Here are a few shots that I thought were gone forever:
Even though I've heard of this happening to many others before me and have always felt bad for the victims of computer failure, I had never actually put what they were saying into practice.
Well, I have now learnt my lesson. You must always take time to: BACK UP!
I'm telling you- go right now and BACK UP your pictures!
:)

oh my word! So glad you were able to retrieve some of those precious pics.
ReplyDeleteWe've backed up once, but I feel an immediate need to do another. Thanks for the rather painful reminder!
everytime I download from my camera - I backup externally!!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! So sad! I upload all my pictures onto Walmart.com. I didn't have an external hard drive, and our CD drive stopped working in our laptop, so I uploaded the pictures to walmart.com for the time being. I did it constantly, because my laptop threatened me 7 or 8 times before it finally died. I'm so thankful I backed everything up! Now it's easy to just pull them off the website and save them onto our new computer.
ReplyDeleteI hope your husband can retrieve more pictures!
Adorable saved pics.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I lost my daughters first 8 months. All of them except for the maybe 3 rolls I took on actual film. That also means I lost my sons pics (all of them) from 15 months to 23 months.
In Jan I backed y pics up ans the next day my compiter blew up. I was luckier this time.
I hope you get more pics saved.
Thanks for the tip!! And can I just say that feet picture is adorable!!!!!!
ReplyDeletelove the angel feet picture. she is too cute! I hope you'll swing by my site, The IE Mommy, to see my WW entry and to enter our photo poster giveaway! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found your pictures! My sister kept the pictures of her little girl on a laptop and it was stolen from their house, so they're lost forever!
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's the drawback of modern technology: if you took pictures the old fashioned way they would at least be somewhere in a shoebox.
We bought the Mac Time Capsule just for reason. We now back up once a week. The pictures twice a week. I have lost way to many in the past. Hope you get your laptop up and running again!
ReplyDeleteThose feet! The cuteness!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! but I don't think all is lost...this happened to me and I took it to a computer fixit person who was able to recover ALL my photos.
ReplyDeleteI'd be torn!!!
ReplyDeleteLove, !LOVE! the one with the pink tiny feet.
My Wordful is all about "Sister's Day". Come join me if you can. Happy Wednesday.
what a blessing! I second that... BACK UP regularly. I'm paranoid about it too, so after I lost data (only about a weeks worth) I back up in multiple locations.
ReplyDeleteI just had the same thing happen! My computer wouldn't load, but finally after 24 hours I got it too! Thankfully I had started the backup process, so I wouldn't have lost everything, but it didn't matter. I'll be backing up weekly now! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! So glad they weren't lost!
I am so glad you found some of the pictures! Thanks for sharing! I am also guilty of not backing up my files on a regular basis!
ReplyDeleteHello to "simply sara" I am "simply stork" how funny :o)
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your computer going curputz...It is my biggest fear...I have a huge stack of discs to prove it...but I am still behind! Now I feel the need to catch up!
sniff sniff- so sorry for your loss.
~simply~
Thank goodness you didn't loose those precious photos.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! Thank goodness you still have them!
ReplyDeleteI can relate - Our computer died when our oldest was about 9 months old. I lost all the short videos and nearly all the photos of our first baby! It nearly broke my heart to think about all the cute and precious stuff I lost. The only photos I could salvage were from attachments in emails or those I had printed from snapfish.com.
ReplyDeleteI now upload every single picture take to snapfish - it's free! I also upload all the short videos I take, about $24/year for that. Easy way to back up off site. I also bought a 16gb flashdrive to copy all of my folders, but I never seem to remember to do it often enough.
Yep, been there myself. I lost almost all of the existing pictures of my First baby's Frist Christmas. I've only cried that hard a few times in my life...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! So sad about your computer...but glad you didn't lose the pictures!
ReplyDeleteHow scary! Good thing you were able to get them back. I have mine on CDs and hosted online. Just in case :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, our family is adorable!
