We are Family

When Chris and I got married I was just a naive 18 year old girl completely and hopelessly in love.
It was the giddy kind of love. You know- the kind that most likely annoyed everyone around us, but we were so oblivious to the fact......too busy being in love!

I wanted to spend every waking moment with him. I felt so loved, so treasured, so safe. I couldn't imagine living one second without him. He made me feel beautiful and important. He was my other half, my best friend, my perfect love. I knew from the top of my head to the tip of my toes that Chris was the man that God had chosen for me. Now, almost 9 years later I am even more convinced of that fact.

This post is not actually about Chris. I fooled ya, didn't I!

No, this post is really about his parents. You see one of the things that convinces me now more than ever that God brought Chris and I together is his family.

When Chris and I were newly married I sat down with his mom and opened my heart to her. At the time I felt like I couldn't call her mom because I had reserved that title in my heart for my mom. After losing her at such a young age it was just plain weird to start using the name 'mom' for someone else. I can remember the conversation like it was yesterday and can still see her eyes soften as she said she understood.

Since then I've changed my mind. My mother-in-law is my mom, and my father-in-law is my dad. They are my family & I am their daughter.

Through the last few years, especially since having children we've gotten very close.
My in-loves are two of my most favorite people. I am so lucky to have them in my life. I honestly think that because I lost my mom when I was little God just knew who to pair me up with.
My mother-in-love is a beautiful & godly woman. Light just shines from her and even strangers are drawn to her light. My father-in-love is a real man's man. He is a hunter and fisherman, but when his grandchildren are around he just melts into a teddy bear. He is a godly man full of wisdom. They have taught me so much about marriage and living lives of integrity and faith.

They are considerate and always willing to help with the kids. Always there to support us and encourage us. They love on us so selflessly. In fact this past weekend Chris and I were sick. They took all three kids just so that Chris and I could get a full nights sleep. Then when they dropped off the kids the next day, they brought us some homemade chicken soup.

I've heard some very sad in-law stories and know that I am so blessed to have the relationship that I have with mine. They make it so easy. The love me for who I am, flaws and all :)
I am so grateful for my family. I am beyond blessed!

  2. What a blessing! My mother-in-law died the first year of our marriage. I am sad that I didn't get to experience having her around. She was a remarkable woman.

    Great post!

  6. You ARE very lucky and I am so glad that you appreciate that! Many people (myself included) do not have a relationship like that with their in-laws. My family adores my husband and he is their son but my in-laws do not feel that way about me OR our kids. It is a blk/wht issue that shouldn't exist but sadly it does. Appreciate, be proud and hold on to your relationship for life!
