And so it begins.....

Potty Training Boot Camp is in full swing at our house.

To be honest, I really was not ready to tackle this one quite yet, but our determined two year old had her mind made up.
You see, she's been very interested for a couple months now. She has always loved "sitting" on the potty. She's never actually done anything while sitting there though.
Then there was a bit of the shift a few days ago.
Every time she would 'go' in her diaper she felt the need to strip down to nothing. Yes that's right. Shirt, pants, diaper and even her socks would come off as she's announced "pee, pee" or the dreaded "poo poo." EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Sadly we've even had a few repeats of this episode. *Groan*

So, I decided that a little Carpe Diem was in order.
Rather than resist her interest, and try to reason with her that all her clothes did not need to come off every time she needed to go, I would instead just embrace her enthusiasm and help to channel it.

I am no expert when it comes to potty training. I've only done it once before. I just plan to use the same method I used with our son. Reason being- it actually worked.

So, what method did we use?

We did the "forget-the pull-ups-put-'em-right-in-underwear-stay-home-for-a-week-and-just-get -'er -done" approach.

Although it was hard to commit to staying home and 'hibernating' for a week, it worked perfectly for our big boy, and he was trained in 4-5 days.
(Now, in all fairness, I do know some people who have tried this method and have not found the same results. I completely get that all kids are different. I'm just hoping that it will go as smoothly for our little sweetie as it did with her older brother. Fingers crossed!)

I had planned on starting yesterday morning, but alas when I checked the calendar I realized our big girl had her two-year checkup in the middle of the day. I wanted to go full tilt and not confuse her by throwing on a pull-up to go to the doctor, so I decided to wait until after her nap. She wore underwear for just a few hours before bed.
She had a few accidents.
No biggie. It was our first attempt after-all.

This morning I woke up optimistic and ready to start our first full day of potty training.

Our big girl got dressed and we began our journey.
Somehow throughout the morning she went from being fully clothed, to wearing just her underwear, to running around the house naked...no scratch that- she wasn't completely naked. She was wearing her pink running shoes.
:)
Oh well, I ended up just letting her run around as she pleased. I figure it was easier and would be less laundry at the end of the day!

Ok, so how are we doing so far?
Well, it's noon.
We've had three accidents. One just pee, the other two....well- you know.(sigh)

But guess what?!....Guess what?!....(jumping up and down with glee)....we've also had a success!
Woohoo!
Yippeeeeeeeee!
Hallelujah!

She went pee on the potty!
Can you tell I'm excited?

I know that if you just look at her morning stats it's not that exciting, but I am thrilled.
She actually went PEE ON THE POTTY!
(that's me shouting from the rooftop)

Here's hopin' we get another success after naptime!
:)

  1. Hooray!

That's the way we did potty training with H. too. I think it's less confusing that using pull ups :-).

    Good luck!

  3. i've been known to throw parades when one of my children finally did their business in the potty.
and your method in my opinion (10 yrs of potty training as a preschool teacher) is the best way (let'm go naked and clean the carpets and/or put them right into undies. never, never pull- ups! it's another diaper. load'm up on liquids, set the timer for 30 min. reminders for you, set a basket of books next to the toilet, and come ready with a plethora of silly songs and hand games; twinkle twinkle, jeus loves me, i'm a little tea pot...and plan on spending the next few days next to the porcelain throne. don't forget the prizes. girls will do anything for chocolate :-)).

    you go girl!
