My expectations for our kids clothing drawers are very low. What I mean by this is that I really don't expect that the clothes I neatly fold and put away will remain that way for very long.
See I'd rather my kids learn how to pick out their own clothes and dress themselves than keep them neatly folded in their drawers.
(Because we all know the two go hand in hand. When a 2 year old and a 5 year old pick out what they want to wear, their clothes ALWAYS end up being squished back in the drawers and nothing stays folded...at least that's my experience)
And I'm ok with this. I've learnt that I really need to just pick my battles, and so I have let the "nice clean perfectly folded laundry" dreams fade away. (for a few years anyways)
Yesterday morning my son called me into his room to show me a "surprise". At first I was very hesitant and in an attempt to prepare myself for whatever I may find I asked "Why....what did you do?"
But all he said was "Just come see"
As I stepped into his room I didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary. There wasn't a mess to clean up, or something that was broken....
"Ok Buddy, what's up?" I asked.
"You know what I did last night when you put me to bed?" He answered back.
"What"?
"This" he said and slowly opened his underwear/sock drawer.
Now, you have to understand what this looked like before. I would just throw his underwear and socks into this drawer. I didn't even bother folding them anymore. But our little man decided to take it upon himself and set the "laundry bar" a little higher.
:)
At first I didn't believe him.
He didn't know how to fold- did he?
To find out I did what any mama would do.....I took a few pairs out and made him fold them in front of me to prove that he was the one who did it.
And he did!
It was true.
He did it. All on his own. And he didn't stop there....
He made sure all his drawers were nice and organized.
What a crazy monkey.
