summer {home}school- Week 3

Bugs, bugs and more bugs. This week we have studied all different kinds.
And to be honest I have really enjoyed learning right along with the kids. Who knew I knew so little about bugs!

I thought it'd be fun to post a little quiz and see how much ya'll know (don't worry, if you can answer at least 2 right you'll know more that I did at the beginning of the week!)

Whoever answers the most correctly will get bragging rights for being super duper smart :)
I'll post the answers in the next few days. Good Luck!
  1. Is a spider an insect? Why/why not?
  2. What is it called when you have a fear of spiders?
  3. How often do most spiders make webs?
  4. How many eyes do bees have?
  5. What are the three kinds of bees in the hive?
  6. Do female or male bees have a stinger?
  7. How many stomachs do bees have?
  8. How long is the average life cycle of a honeybee during the working season?
  9. An ant can lift ___ times it's own body weight.
  10. How do ants hear?
As you can see bees turned out to be the crowd pleaser. The kids (our oldest especially) were the most excited to learn about the buzzin' bees!

Our field trip this week was to go on a bug hunt. We made our list and off we went to the park to count all the bugs we could find. I wish you could have seen how excited they were each time they discovered one.

We even brought along a jar and were able to catch a few ants to bring home and take care of :)

Oh, and what would a day in the park be without finding a few flowers?!

Next week- Dinosaurs!
;)

  2. Very cool. So happy you learned so much about bugs :)

#1 - Spiders are not insects because they have 8 legs, not 6.... We used to sing (to the tune of "head, shoulders, knees and toes"):

    Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen.
    Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen.
6 legs, 2 wings and an exoskeleton.
    Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen.

    {I used to work at a nature center}

Thanks so much for your comments on my blog! :-) You made my night tonight! You are so sweet.

And do you backup online? If so, what site do you use? Now I'm totally freaked out about it all! Like, what if our house was in a fire and I lost my computer AND my hard drive, then what?? :-)
