Dentist woes

It's been a rough day.

This afternoon I took our son to the dentist.

He complained of a sore tooth on Saturday, then on Sunday the right side of his face began to swell. So I made an appointment this morning.
To be honest I was expecting that it was just some kind of infection and that they would somehow just get it fixed up quickly and easily. Maybe give a round of antibiotics. Done.

Uh, no.

He is scheduled for emergency dental surgery tomorrow where they will pull not one, not two, but FIVE of his teeth.
(The one that is infected plus 4 of his baby teeth that need to be removed to make room for his permanent teeth that otherwise won't have enough room to come in straight- an unrelated problem to the swelling, but they figure they might as well do it while they are in there.)
They'll also fix all his cavities (he has a few- I get a big time-out for not flossing!) and drain out the infection that caused us to go in, in the first place.

Ugh.

So, I am exhausted. Stressed. Worried.

No only the thought of my baby having this procedure, but also the cost. Stress city.
It'll only cost us, oh, the equivalent to THREE mortgage payments!

Grrr... individual health insurance you are NO good to me!

Anyways, sorry for ranting.... but today I am just one worn out mama.

Update: I just saw this video on my friend's facebook page.
And in my grumpy, stressed out state it made me smile.
It was just what I needed in that moment.
Hope it makes you smile too :)

  1. Oh wow, Sara. What a day.

Take heart -- your little one will be just fine. My sister and I both had tons of teeth pulled when we were little and we enjoyed eating lots of ice cream :)

You and your little boy will be in my prayers today.

  2. i'm sorry. i'm especially sorry for your boy, i'm sorry for your pocket book (ours to a good 6 mortgage hit with michael's accident, which also included the death of his camera and lens. so i feel your pain).

my father in law is a dentist, and let me tell you something he has shared- bad teeth are hereditary. for some all the flossing and brushing in the world won't save them, it's in their genes.

may God give you peace and provide.

  3. ugh! My heart goes out to you and your big brave boy!! I hope today's surgery goes well. I will be keeping him (and you) in prayer.

That's the first time I've seen that video and maybe it's the pregnancy hormones, but I was laughing and crying all at the same time. Thanks for sharing :)

Hope today is over quickly, friend!
