Worry

It can eat me alive.
It can be like a cancer.
It can start small and quickly spread like wildfire.
It can be contagious.
It can overwhelm.

But it can be overcome.
We can actually give it away and receive peace in return.
A peace that surpasses all human understanding.
A peace that we can rest in.

'Do not worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.' Philippians 4:6-7

So that's it?
All I have to do is pray about it, and I will experience God's peace?
Why then do I insist on struggling with worry.....

Do you ever worry?
About your kids?
About your heath?
About your job?
About your finances?
About your family?
About what others think of you?
About _________?

Ya, me too.
Thankfully I have come a very long way from where I once was.
But, I do still worry about things.
Some are big.
But some are silly things like "is she mad at me" or "what do they think of me".
(And I'm learning that those are just ugly symptoms of the insecurity I have determined to say SO LONG to! Yippee!)

I have also learnt, over the last few years, that I need to just give these worries (big and small) away and accept peace instead. I need to actually trust my God!

The prescription for worry is trust- taking God at His Word.
The more I get in His word, the more I trust. Go figure.
He is showing me His perspective, rather than me being blinded by my circumstances or being afraid of the "what ifs."

Ok, so I have some homework for you.
In the study I'm doing "Jesus- 90 Days with the One and Only" we're instructed to write out a list of everything we worry about. Little and big stuff. The "is so and so mad at me" to the "what if something bad happens to one of my kids..."
Now, I want you to make your own worry list.
Write it all out. Everything. Everything that you worry about.
When you are all done, write the word TRUST in big bold letters across your entire list.

TRUST.
Wow.

I know that it is easier said than done, but believe me when I tell you, He is trustworthy.
Even in the midst of chaos. He is trustworthy.
Even when you do have legitimate things to worry about, He is trustworthy.
He will get you through whatever it is that you are facing. He will give you peace.
And peace is so much better than worry.

"God wills that we overcome worry even when overwhelmed by reasons to worry"
Beth Moore Jesus- 90 days with the one and only

So, what do you say....wanna get rid of worry and instead rest in His peace?
Me too!

  1. Yes, me too :) I loved that study and I'm currently reading "So Long Insecurity". I'm good about praying about things that I'm concerned about...just not good at the letting go part.

  2. Beth, you totally bring up a good point.
Letting go is definitely the hardest part of trust. I so struggle with it too...

  3. I'll have to try that -- I have an anxiety box, but since I'm a list making person, I like the list approach.

    He is trustworthy!

  4. "accepting peace," that is what stands out to me.

it's there for the taking, BUT we must accept it.

of course i worry, i have children. i think worry develops in the mind as baby develops in the womb. worry intensifies once baby is born. it must be tamed, and turned into wisdom.
i need wisdom to guide me in relationship, parenting, finances, health... i need to not let worry consume me, i need to TRUST the ONE who knows my future (and my kiddos).

  5. I have really felt God's trust through my prayers recently!! And I love the feeling of always knowing He's there for me to lean on! But why is it that we go through these seasons of doubt & worry?

  6. Sara, thanks for visiting Sugar Tails. I so appreciated your comments.

This post was encouraging to me. First of all, misery loves company right? :) So I guess it's nice to know I'm not the only one who struggles with worry. But it's also important to remember that we can overcome this! Thank you for that prompting. I'm not as bad as I once was, but I still have a looooong way to go.
